You can probably work out what I'm likely to buy, by taking a look at what I sell... but that's no reason not to make it easier and give you some clues. Age / periodMost of what I buy and sell is published in the twentieth century, and I'm particularly interested it the middle years. I don't do a lot of antiquarian, nor do I do much with the latest blockbusters. Each of these have their own experts. A lot of what I deal in is from 1920 to 1990 - four score years and ten, a lifetime of books if you were born in the right year! If you have a collection of books from that era - perhaps your parents' casually collected titles - I could well be interested; drop me a line. I do buy other ages of books, but that's the mainstay of my stock. FictionMost of the fiction I sell is special in some way - that doesn't have to mean expensive, just something that stops it being run of the mill. I sell a lot of first editions. I sell a lot of books from the 30s, 40s and 50s that are in terrific condition, preferably still with their dust jackets intact. I sell old orange Penguins and interesting pulp paperbacks. So that's what I buy. If you have any of those looking for a good home, feel free to get in touch. Depending on how many, where you are, what they're like, maybe we can do a deal. Non-fictionNon-fiction is my biggest seller, so it's the thing I look out for most when I'm out buying. I'm particularly interested in anything connected to the countryside, and old-fashioned living. If you have books about countryside pursuits, I could well be interested. Fishing, crafts, wildlife, natural history, animal-husbandry. All so small-holding, cooking, baking, all that good stuff.
I don't buy anything that's available by the cart-load in every High Street in Britain. No blockbuster mass-produced paperbacks, no supermarket cookbooks, very little Mills and Boon (though some authors do sell) and positively no Jeffrey Archer no matter how much you beg me to take them away. :o) I hope that helps give some idea of whether or not the books you have will be of interest to me. But if in doubt, please use the contact tab to get in touch - I'm always happy to answer questions. |
